Recently we received the following email from our
friend Gaspar, organizer of the voluntary Guadalhorce youth culture
movement Gestionindi and lead guitarist for the Andalucian punk
band Kmorra:
Kmorra en directo, arrasando la estación
de Cártama. Este domingo 25, con fieras, domadores, funambulistas
y trapecistas a tiempo parcial. Hombres que escupen fuego y dragones
que andan de pie. Eso y mucho más en el concierto de Kmorra.
A media tarde loco, que el lunes trabajamos.
I understood most of it straightaway. Kmorra, who
we met not long ago in rehearsal in Cartama, were playing live on
Sunday the 25th May in Cartama Estacion. There were going to be
fiends, fire eaters, tightrope walkers, trapeze artists, men who
breathed fire and dragons that walked upright. And of course there
would be Kmorra.
Sounded good to me. There was one thing though that
needed clarifying. I sent an email to Gaspar, thanking him for the
information and asking him to explain to me what was actually meant
by ‘A media tarde loco, que el lunes trabajamos’. Literally
translated it meant ‘in the middle of the afternoon crazy
(or perhaps evening as the word tarde means both), because on Monday
we work’. If you are Spanish, you are born with an instinctive
feel for these things. No one can ever tell you exactly when something
is actually due to start, but somehow everybody seems to know. But
being English, we required something a bit more specific, even if,
living in Spain, we accepted that it would be relatively approximate.
And this was Gaspar’s reply, written in English:
Jajajaajajjaa! Sorry! I really don't mention the
hour. I guess we'll be at the bar early, maybe 20:30 or even earlier.
The concert should begin at 21:00 . . . you know. Good to hear from
you! Greetings!
P.S. I very much enjoyed your interview with Azzy,
the bass player who lives near the Valle de Abdalajís, it's
amazing how many good musicians live in the Guadalhorce Valley!
Well unfortunately that clashed with something else
and we couldn’t make it, but I asked Gaspar if he could arrange
to send me a few photos and here they are. Hope you enjoy them!
If you would like more information about Gestionindi,
or any future events organized by the group, you can email the association
on: gestionindi@yahoo.es
By the way, if you have space available, with an
electric input, Gaspar is looking for venues to put on Arts and
Crafts and Music Fairs in the Guadalhorce Valley. Contact him.
