Breathtaking
views, at first over the ‘campo’ or countryside near Alora,
El Chorro and El Torcal in the distance, then towards Carratraca and
the Sierra de las Nieves and finally over the lovely Valle del Sol,
including Alora and the El Hacho de Pizarra, make this rather long
and fairly strenuous walk well worth the effort.
Beginning near the Fuente de la Higuera on the north side of Alora,
the walk starts with a long uphill stroll along a wide track, the
views and peace and quiet of the countryside making an immediate and
pleasing impression. A stiff climb, also along a wide track, leads
to the summit where a rocky outcrop, seemingly on top of the world,
makes an ideal spot for a leisurely picnic.
The descent, at first along a track that is fairly steep in places,
leads into a pathway which, it has to be said, must be treated with
extreme caution in places, especially after rain, when soil and stones
may be loose under foot. Take care, but do not be put off, this part
is very brief and common sense should be all you need to avoid any
problems.
Once again striking out along a wide track, the final stretch of the
walk, dipping briefly into the top part of town and then skirting
the football ground, is full of incredible views, including very atmospheric
and intriguing rocky outcrops along the way. Towards the end you will
be able to see your car from the hillside and, most importantly, the
restaurant beside it where you can enjoy a well-deserved cold drink
and, would you believe it, even more fabulous views.

To get to the start of the walk
From the traffic lights at the north end of Alora, take the MA441
towards Carratraca. After 1km park by the Venta de La Higuera. Around
100m further on towards Carratraca there are two roads to the left.
The one doubling back towards Alora, signposted Campo de Futbol,
is where you will come from back to the car at the end of the walk.
The other, heading away from Alora, is the start of the walk.
The walk
100m on the Carratraca side of Venta La Higuera take the track heading
North, away from Álora.
Follow this through olive and almond groves for around 3 km, ignoring
any turns to the left until you reach an obvious T-junction by a
small yellow house. Take the tarmac road to the left. (1 hr)
After almost 1 km, (1 hr 15 mins), you will see a small radio transmission
mast. Continue on the track, which veers left and uphill. Note the
two footpaths to your right, one going straight ahead, and one down
hill, which will be your way down.
After a few hundred metres, (1 hr 25 mins) it is worth taking a
detour to the obvious rocky outcrop to the right of the track for
excellent aerial views of Alora.
Continue along the track another km (1 hr 40 mins) to the trig point
(559m) on the left of the track. The final km brings you to the
transmission station from where there are views over the Guadalahorce
valley. (1 hr 55 mins)
Descend the way you came, as far as the small radio transmission
mast (2 hrs 20 mins). Take the footpath downhill to your left. Follow
this main path past a sharp curve, until you see a smaller footpath
to the left going downhill and then, at a T junction, take the left
turn that runs along under the rocks, keeping to the main track
until you reach Alora village. (2 hrs 55 mins).
On reaching the village, continue straight ahead, joining Calle
Puerto. Continue between houses. Turn left into Calle Oman. Continue
uphill between more houses. At a 5- ways junction, carry on in the
same direction slightly uphill past a row of houses on the right.
When you reach the sports ground, follow the road sign to Carratraca,
which takes you around to the right of the sportsground. Continue
on the road until it meets the Alora to Carratraca road, where you
started your walk. (3 hrs 15 mins)

Las vistas desde el monte Hacho de Álora
son impresionantes. Desde allí se contempla el Chorro y Carratraca,
también en la distancia la Sierra de las Nieves y finalmente
el Valle del Sol que incluye Álora y el Hacho de Pizarra.
Todo esto, hace que el largo y vigoroso paseo hasta la cima del
Hacho, valga el esfuerzo.
Para subir hay que situarse cerca de la Fuente de la Higuera en
el lado del norte de Álora, el paseo va a lo largo de un
camino ancho, donde las vistas, y tranquilidad del campo nos da
sensación de paz. Para llegar a la cima hay una subida muy
pendiente, por un camino ancho que nos conducirá a la cumbre
donde un afloramiento rocoso, aparentemente encima del mundo, lo
hace un punto ideal para una comida campestre.
La pendiente, al principio a lo largo de un camino bastante escarpado
en algunos lugares, conduce a un carril donde se debe ir con extrema
precaución, especialmente después de la lluvia, cuando
el suelo y las piedras pueden ceder bajo el pie provocando resbalones
y caídas. Aunque esta parte del camino es muy pequeña
hay que tener cuidado y sentido común para intentar evitar
cualquier problema. Una vez pasado esto, el camino de nuevo es ancho
hasta desembocar en la parte más alta de Álora y tras
bordear el campo de fútbol, una zona que tiene unas vistas
preciosas, nos encontramos en el lugar donde habíamos dejado
el coche enana ladera y lo más importante cerca del restaurante
donde poder gozar de una buena merienda con más vistas del
Valle del Guadalhorce.

Para
llegar al comienzo del paseo
Una vez llegas
a Álora por el nuevo acceso deberás de tomar la carretera
MA441 dirección a Carratraca. Aproximadamente después
de recorrer 1 km. nos encontramos con la Venta de La Higuera. Con
el coche, andaremos 100 m. más hacia Carratraca para encontrarnos
ante dos caminos uno que va hacia la izquierda y otro hacia la derecha.
Cogeremos aquel que dobla hacia la izquierda, por detrás
de Álora y dirección al campo de fútbol, es
aquí donde deberás dejar el coche para recogerlo cuando
termine el paseo.
El
paseo
A
100 metros de la Venta de la Higuera y en dirección Carratraca
toma el camino que va al norte, sigue éste a través
del campo de olivos y almendros hacia arriba durante aproximadamente
3 km. No deberás hacer caso a otros caminos que encuentres.
Cuando alcances un cruce con forma de T que tiene al lado una casa
amarilla pequeña, toma el camino de la izquierda. Después
de andar casi 1 Km. (aproximadamente una hora quince minutos)
verás un mástil de radio pequeño de transmisión.
Continuando en el camino, gira a la izquierda y sigue cuesta arriba.
Observa las dos sendas para peatones a la derecha, una va todo recto,
y otra va hacia abajo, ésta será la dirección
que habrá que tomar para bajar.
Después de algunos cientos de metros, (1 hora 25 minutos),
nos encontramos con un desvío rocoso a la derecha del camino
podremos ver unas excelentes vistas aéreas de Álora.
Éstas, harán que nuestro esfuerzo valga la pena.
Continuamos andando otro kilómetro (1 hora 40 minutos) hasta
el lugar donde está señalada la altitud de la montaña
(los 559m) en la izquierda del camino. El kilómetro final
te lleva a la estación de transmisión desde donde
las vistas del Valle de Guadalhorce son maravillosas (1 hora 55
minutos).
Para regresar, hay que volver al mástil de radio pequeño
de transmisión (2 horas 20 minutos) y coger la senda para
peatones cuesta abajo a la izquierda. Siguiendo la trayectoria principal
más allá de una curva aguda, hasta que ves una senda
para peatones más pequeña a la izquierda cuesta abajo.
Por fin nos encontramos con un cruce en forma de T, a la izquierda
siguiendo el camino principal hasta que alcanzar el pueblo de Álora.
(2 horas 55 minutos).
Cuando llegamos a la localidad seguimos andando recto para continuar
por calle Puerto, para llegar a calle Omar tiramos para calle Suspiros
al final de ésta, te encontrarás con el campo de fútbol,
sigue el indicador hacia Carratraca y entrarás en el camino
hasta que llegas al camino donde comenzaste el paseo. (3 horas 15
minutos)
